한겨울입니다

We're well into winter

겨울 중에도 '한겨울이다'에 해당하는 영어 표현에 We're well into winter가 있다. 가령, Judging from the cold, I'd say we're well into winter라고 하면 '추위를 보니 이제 한겨울인 것 같다'라는 뜻이고, By the bare branches you can tell that we're well into winter하면 '앙상한 나뭇가지로 이제 한겨울임을 알 수 있다'라는 뜻이다.
We're well into winter와 비슷한 표현에 We're deep into winter, The height of winter is upon us, It's the middle of winter 등이 있다. 참고로 계절의 한창 때를 표현하는 방법은 계절마다 다른데 '봄의 한창 때'는 the bloom of spring, '한여름'은 the height of summer, '가을의 한창 때'는 the thick of fall, '한겨울'은 the deep of winter로 표현한다.

B:I'll say. It must be minus 10.
A:The weatherman says it'll get even colder in the afternoon.
B:Well, we're well into winter.
A:No doubt about it.
B:I can't wait for spring.

A:야, 오늘 아침 정말 추운데.
B:정말이야! 영하 10도는 되겠어.
A:기상통보관이 오후에는 훨씬 더 추울거래.
B;한겨울이야.
A:정말 그래.
B:봄이 정말 기다려지네.
